Along with physics and astronomy education programs at Ilia State University, modern space research has been ongoing for many years, covering all the main fields: astronomy and astrophysics, cosmology, gravitation and astroparticles, Earth’s atmosphere, and near space.

These studies are conducted in close international cooperation with leading universities and research centers in Europe and the USA. Young scientists and students are actively involved in them.

On the basis of these studies, in 2022, the Space Research Center was founded at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine of the University, which consists of three departments:

● Astronomy and Astrophysics

● Cosmology, Gravitation and Astroparticle Physics

● Atmosphere-ionosphere and Near Space
