Glaciology Research Centre
The Glaciology Research Centre was established at Ilia State University in 2026. Its mission is to conduct comprehensive research on glaciers, the cryosphere, and climate-change-driven processes. The Centre undertakes state-of-the-art glaciological research using a wide range of methodological approaches, including field expeditions, remote sensing, laboratory analyses, and computer modelling of glacier-climate interactions.
The Centre is dedicated to advancing international scientific collaboration, supporting the education and professional development of early-career researchers, and promoting the integration of Georgian glaciological research into the global scientific community.
The Centre also plays an active role in the University's teaching mission, with particular emphasis on doctoral education and the involvement of PhD candidates in cutting-edge scientific research.
