Epigraphic Corpus of Georgia
The Epigraphic Corpus of Georgia was begun in 2015 by the Institute of Linguistic Studies of the Ilia State University. The project aims to document the rich epigraphic evidence discovered or preserved in Georgia according to the standards of EpiDoc, a digital successor to the Leiden Convention. The first electronic publication of the Armazi Bilingual inscription was produced according to these standards in 2014 by Tamar Kalkhitashvili as part of her MA project. Based on the cutting-edge methodology applied in digital humanities, the publication generated a highly positive feedback at the International Conference of Digital Epigraphy organized by EAGLE (Europeana network of Ancient Greek and Latin Epigraphy). At this stage, the Epigraphic Corpus (Project Leader Prof. N. Doborjginidze) includes Georgian, Aramaic and Greek inscriptions from the 1st to the 9th century AD. Conceived as a long-term project, it aims to develop, according to the aforementioned standards, a corpus of the earliest inscriptions preserved in Georgia, including Urartian, Aramaic, Greek, Jewish, Arabic, Persian and Armenian texts the earliest of which date from the 9th century BC.
