The research conducted in the Kakheti region aims to identify the functional regions in Kakheti and to analyze the most competitive sub-sectors in each of them. A functional region is a spatially related region where aggregate demand and supply meet. Like many European countries, the importance of functional regions in the planning and implementation of socio-economic policies is already gaining recognition in Georgia. This research is the result of the growing interest and recognition of the issue of functional regions. 

Within the framework of the research, functional regions in the Kakheti region were identified and mapped, and competitive sectors were studied in each region. The study examined the competitive advantages of competitive subsectors, their needs and the most important challenges. Also, to develop the sub-sectors, recommendations were prepared for both local and central governments to develop mechanisms to promote and encourage these sub-sectors.
