Investigation of the significant geoheritage of Georgia (The Caucasus) to Join UNESCO Global Geoparks Network
Geoparks represent Earth’s significant geological heritage recognized by UNESCO and the world. UNESCO global geoparks have three major goals: Scientific-educational, environmental protection and economic. Although Georgia hosts numerous globally significant geological areas, none have been nominated for UNESCO recognition. This project will conduct scientific research on the globally significant geological heritage in Georgia. The results will be published to support nominations to receive the above-mentioned international recognition. The research will be the first in Georgia and provide important global recognition. Publishing of the results of the research supports international recognition of Georgia’s geoheritage and UNESCO global geopark status.
